Who we are
Baywa is a Torres Strait Islander owned and female owned principal contractor. We build for education, government and commercial clients across New South Wales, and we run every job to the standard those clients hold us to.
From our offices in Winston Hills in Sydney and Tamworth in the New England, our delivery teams cover the whole of the state: metropolitan Sydney, the Hunter and Central Coast, the North Coast, New England and the North West, the Central West and the Riverina. Wherever the work is, we mobilise to it, and we run many sites at once to the same program and the same standard.
Most of our work is delivered inside buildings and campuses that stay open. Planning around the people who use them, keeping them safe and informed, and handing back on program is the discipline the whole business is built on.
The three dots in our mark are the three things we carry to every site: our people, our standards and our respect for the Country we are working on.
Our Director
Edmund Tamwoy is a Torres Strait Islander man and a traditional owner of Badu Island in Zenadth Kes. He has decades of experience in construction and sustainability.
Edmund runs Baywa the way he has run every job: plan it properly, keep the site safe, keep the people around it informed, and hand it back finished. On his own Country he has built enterprise from the ground up and continues to do so throughout QLD and NSW. He sees every project as a chance to create development pathways for young Indigenous people, through apprenticeships tied to TAFE NSW courses, training on the job and steady work with a First Nations builder.

Every engagement runs on the same system, reports openly against the program, and draws on the depth to deliver high-intensity works across many sites at once.
Delivery models
You have the design. We price it, plan it and build it under GC21, MW21 or AS4000, with the reporting each contract requires.
Baywa takes single-point responsibility for design and delivery. We engage and manage the design team, own the outcome, and design to the client's standards where they apply.
A collaborative approach in which we work alongside the client and design team before the contract is let, so constructability, staging and risk are resolved early and the cost of the works comes down.
One scope delivered across many sites concurrently, to one standard and on a compressed timetable, with every site finished and reported the same way.

A remedial project within a heritage building at TAFE NSW Petersham. Three roofs were replaced and internal areas remediated after the failure of rainwater goods, roofing elements and waterproofing.
Failed rainwater goods, roofing elements and waterproofing had damaged internal areas of a heritage building at TAFE NSW Petersham. The building fabric called for specialist work, not a like-for-like patch.
Three roofs were replaced and the internal areas remediated. Lead paint was removed under controlled conditions, heritage mouldings were custom fabricated to match the originals, and windows and flooring were repaired and renewed.
A watertight heritage building with its original character intact, remediated to current compliance standards.

Why a First Nations business needs a RAP

Baywa is owned and led by Torres Strait Islander people, and most of our work is on Aboriginal land. People sometimes ask why a business like ours needs a Reconciliation Action Plan. We have three reasons.
Accountability. Our participation results so far have come from who we are and from the commitments we make in individual tenders. A RAP puts those commitments into one public document with dates and names against them, and we report our progress to Reconciliation Australia every year.
Respect between First Nations cultures. Torres Strait Islander culture and the Aboriginal cultures of New South Wales are distinct. Our owners' heritage does not give our team knowledge of Dharug or Kamilaroi Country, or of the other Countries where TAFE NSW campuses stand. We build those relationships and that knowledge the same way any other contractor must.
Influence. On a typical project we direct more people than we employ. Our subcontractors and suppliers take their lead from us on who gets hired, who gets trained and how Country is acknowledged on site. A published RAP tells them what we expect before they price a job.

What we already do
Apprentices and trainees work on our projects, and wherever we can their placements line up with TAFE NSW courses, so students learn their trade on the campuses we build in.
We partner with Supply Nation businesses on live contracts, and we use the Supply Nation directory and the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce network to find First Nations subcontractors and suppliers for each project.
A recycling enterprise on Badu Island in the Torres Strait, founded by our Managing Director in 2017. Baywa partners with Crystal Ailan to promote environmental sustainability, connection to Country and support for remote Indigenous communities.
Our head office in Winston Hills stands on Dharug Country. Our Tamworth office stands on Kamilaroi Country. Our tender submissions and management plans already open with an Acknowledgement of Country written in our own words; the RAP extends that practice from our documents to our sites.
Baywa is Torres Strait Islander owned and female owned. First Nations people hold roles across the business, and our tenders carry participation commitments above the NSW Government minimum.

Baywa Pty Ltd (Baywa, we, us) respects your privacy. When you register as a subcontractor or supplier, we collect your company name, contact name, email address, phone number, trade or service, the region you work in, whether your business is Indigenous owned, and anything you tell us about your business. We collect this information directly from you, and only what we need to respond to you.
Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical information about visits, such as the pages viewed, the date and time, the browser used and an IP address. If we use an analytics service, it collects this information in aggregate so we can see how the site is used. We do not use it to identify you.
We use the information you give us to answer your enquiry, to assess and contact subcontractors and suppliers when suitable work comes up, to keep in touch about projects you have asked about, and to run and improve this website. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for direct marketing unless you have asked us to keep you informed.
Your information is seen by the Baywa people who need it to respond to you. It may also be handled by the providers we use to run the website, deliver form submissions and store email and business records. We choose providers that protect information properly and, where we can, that store it in Australia. We may disclose information where the law requires it. We do not otherwise share your personal information with third parties without your consent.
Form submissions are sent to our business email and kept in our business systems. Access is limited to authorised staff. We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, and for as long as the law requires us to keep business records. Subcontractor and supplier details are kept while we consider your business a potential partner, and are removed on request.
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing admin@baywa.com.au. We will respond within 30 days. If you have a complaint about how we have handled your information, contact us first and we will look into it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
